FAQ
What training methods do you use?
I use positive, science-backed methods rooted in modern learning theory and canine behaviour. That means no force, fear, or intimidation- just clear communication, thoughtful guidance, and an emphasis on building trust. Every dog learns through association and repetition, so I focus on creating safe, consistent experiences that support long-term understanding and emotional regulation.
My approach is relationship-centered. We move at your dog’s pace, honour their individual needs, and help them feel safe enough to learn. Whether we’re working through reactivity, confidence building, or basic skills, my goal is to support lasting change—not quick fixes.
What happens during a private session?
Each private session is one hour long and tailored to your dog’s needs. We choose a location that makes the most sense for your training goals—whether that’s your home, a local trail, or a neutral public space.
During our time together, I’ll guide you through hands-on exercises while also demonstrating techniques with your dog when helpful. My approach is always collaborative: I’ll coach you step-by-step so you feel confident carrying the training into your everyday life. I bring treats to help support learning, but ask that you bring some your dog already enjoys—especially if they have allergies or sensitivities.
After the session, you’ll receive a detailed summary so you can revisit what we covered and stay grounded in your progress.
What happens during a Walk & Train session?
Walk & Train sessions are one-on-one training walks where I work directly with your dog—without you needing to be present. These sessions are customized based on your dog’s needs and might take place in your neighbourhood, on a quiet trail, or in a busier area to support socialization or reactivity work.
I bring treats, my own leash and use your dog’s harness. However I ask that you provide treats if your dog has dietary needs. After each session, you’ll receive a detailed report with insights into what we worked on, how your dog did, and what progress we’re seeing.
These sessions are especially helpful for building skills, boosting confidence, and helping your dog practice new behaviours in real-life environments.
What should I bring to a session?
To help your dog feel comfortable and set up for success, please bring:
-
High-value treats your dog already loves (especially important if they have allergies or sensitivities)
-
Your regular walking gear—a well-fitted harness and a standard 6-foot leash
-
A treat pouch or easy-access pocket (optional but helpful!)
-
Water for your dog, especially on warm days
-
Yourself! Ready to learn, observe, and work as a team
I’ll bring extra treats and training gear to support the session, but bringing what’s familiar to your dog helps them feel more secure. Don’t worry if you’re not sure what qualifies as “high-value treats”—we’ll talk about it together.
